Alcove Storage, Floating Shelves & Built-In Wardrobe - London SW20

Our client, the owners of a terraced house in Raynes Park, (London SW20), were in the process of various home improvements when they contacted us. Their main requirement was to make use of the alcove space either side of the chimney breast in the ground floor living room. They also wanted a built-in wardrobe constructed in the bedroom above.

For the living room alcoves, we agreed on cabinets with shelving above. The width of the cabinets had to allow space for the homeowners’ existing media unit to fit in between them. In regards to the first-floor bedroom wardrobe, our client wanted to maximise hanging space with a high-level storage area.

In terms of style, our clients wanted a very modern look to suit their other renovation work in progress. All the joinery was to be left unfinished. The homeowners’ painters would paint our carpentry alongside their other work within the property.

Alcove Cabinets With Floating Shelves

For the ground floor, we agreed on 900mm high cabinets, three doors to the right of the chimney breast and two to the left, to suit the space available. We constructed a full surround cabinet carcass; this enabled us to fit flush doors, in keeping with the design brief. We installed handleless doors, (opened with hidden push catches) and fitted soft close hinges.

Above the cabinets, we constructed three floating shelves at heights agreed with the client to suit their display requirements. We always take into consideration the usage of floating shelves when building the supporting framework to ensure they are adequate for the weight of the items they will carry.

Bedroom Built-In Wardrobe

In the first floor bedroom, we constructed a full-height built-in wardrobe within the alcove. The agreed design had a top shelf and a main hanging space with two clothes rails and one shelf. The carcass and door construction followed the design principles of the ground floor cabinets

Clean as we go...

All of the carpentry work was constructed on-site. The rooms had been cleared before we started, (for room decoration after our completion). We kept the rooms sawdust free as work progressed with a full tidy and clean once we had finished.

The modern design the homeowners wanted for their joinery complimented their existing furniture and the look they were going for with their renovations.
