Period Style Alcove Cabinets and Shelving Unit - Wimbledon SW20
Our clients in a period property in Wimbledon SW19 were keen that their new proposed alcove cabinets and shelving fitted in with the period design style of their room renovation. The living room had already undergone some improvement works when we commenced our joinery work. The plaster had been removed from the chimney breast leaving exposed brickwork. The existing picture rail had also been removed, making the room appear taller.
Rather than floating shelves which are popular in a modern design style, we proposed a full shelving unit over a two-door cabinet. This would allow for thinner shelves, and allowed us to add detailing to the carcass surrounds, all in keeping with the style required.
Achieving a period style with modern carpentry
The vertical elements of unit carcass and filler scribes were fluted. We constructed the doors in a shaker style with traditional moulding. No matter which style you prefer for your new carpentry work, period or modern, we can tailor our joinery construction to suit READ MORE
All built on site.
With an empty room, we had all the space we needed to work, with care taken to protect the homeowners new flooring. With construction complete, all the joinery was painted in matt white. With the exposed brick chimney breast, cast iron fireplace and the new alcove units, the living room was an impressive transformation.
