Under Stair Cupboard, Bathroom Storage & Bedroom Wardrobe
Last month, (December 2018), we installed an under stair cupboard, bathroom storage and a bedroom wardrobe in a narrow terraced house near Wimbledon in Raynes Park, Merton, London SW20. All the work was constructed in-situ in the homeowners’ property. We protected the areas we were working in and tidied up each day, regularly hoovering. The requirements on this project apply to many London homes; underused spaces and a lack of storage.
Under Stair Cupboard
We had an initial meeting with the house owners and worked out the best use for the space under the stairs, as well as how we would construct the bespoke units. The design was finalised for the construction of three pull out larder units to provide storage of coats and shoes. The homeowners then arranged for the gas and electrics to be repositioned, and date agreed for us to return to start work. Under stair cupboards have great potential for storage or shelving use. Rather than building cupboard doors, the pull out larder units allowed full access to the available space without items being lost and forgotten about at the back of the cupboard.
Bathroom Storage
The boiler for the house was located in the first-floor bathroom, but the space below the boiler was not being used. We constructed a new boiler housing door, and five pull out drawers underneath, creating usable storage space and tidying up the unused area of the bathroom. It is common to have ‘dead space’ in bathrooms where items are just stored on the floor, often homeowners struggle to find ready-made drawer units that fit spaces that are tight or irregular in footprint. The drawers we built had to be 460mm wide. With bespoke carpentry, you can have something tailored to your requirements and the space available.
Bedroom Wardrobe
The homeowners wanted a wardrobe to fit into the alcove space to one side of the fireplace in a first-floor bedroom. They had previously tried to find a self-assembly wardrobe, but nothing would fit tightly in the area. We constructed a floor to ceiling bespoke wardrobe with four drawers and hanging space. With a range in styles of period properties in London most with chimneys, alcove storage takes advantage of the dead space fireplaces creates in a room. Whether for storage or display we can create a range of solutions to suit your requirements and the style of your property.
This was a great project, Tom and his wife knew how they wanted to use their available space, and we were able to design a joinery solution that met their storage requirements as well as fitting in with the interior design of the rest of the house.
Client Testimonial:
